In November 2012 Victory International was blessed to partner with a team of students and staff from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary to train church leaders in Guyana. The team consisted of fifteen participants, including members of various churches in North Carolina, professional medical personnel, and a high school student.
During our week of service to Guyana, Dr. Ant Greenham and Dr. Joe Easterling led in teaching and training over one hundred pastors from about sixty different congregations. We were also privileged to have among us Dr. Charles Burnham, a dentist from Henderson, North Carolina, who led a dental health team.
Upon our arrival in Guyana on November 18, 2012, the team was welcomed by Bishop Juan Edghill of Winners Cathedral, who played an indispensable role in the organization of this endeavor. Pastor Mark S.Vasconcellos opened, preaching on the Doctrine of Salvation from Ephesians 2:1-10 in which the Apostle Paul reflects on God’s children living without Christ, being in Christ, and walking in obedience to Christ. Many Government officials, church leaders, media personnel, church congregations, and visitors were able to listen to Pastor Mark expose God’s Word.
Subsequent to Pastor Mark’s sermon, the Honorable Samuel Hinds, Prime Minister of Guyana, offered a cordial, heartfelt welcome to the team, expressing his gratitude for the team’s service to the people of Guyana. The staff and congregation of Winner Cathedral then entertained everyone present with a traditional Guyanese dinner.
By God’s grace, the team was able to provide up to nine activities daily, including theological training sessions, dental clinics for students and adults, and children’s ministry. Every evening the team preached God’s Word at churches in Georgetown, East Coast, West Bank, and three locations in Berbice.
We are grateful to Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, Bishop Juan Edghill, and other individuals and churches in Guyana who helped facilitate the trip. We are also extremely thankful for the fifteen participants that God raised for this trip as well as their churches and the many organizations and companies in North Carolina who supported the team financially.
We look forward to seeing God’s hand move as He continues to guide the leadership of Victory International in spreading His gospel throughout Guyana.
